IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to open a flagship property under its Regent Hotels brand in Europe, with the rebranding of the former Intercontinental Carlton Cannes.
The property is currently closed f or a two-year refurbishment project and is set to reopen in spring 2023 as the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel.
IHG acquired a majority stake in Regent Hotels in 2018, and there are eight properties in the pipeline including locations in Hainan and Kyoto.
While the brand does count properties in Berlin and Porto Montenegro under its portfolio, the Cannes hotel is set to become the European flagship for the next generation of Regent hotels.
Regent Hong Kong is also set to reopen by the end of the year following a full renovation, followed by the unveiling of Regent Bali in early 2023.
When it reopens the hotel will offer 332 rooms and 37 branded residences, with interior design by Tristan Auer, “known for his singular approach, polyhedral aesthetics and exquisite vision with just a touch of irreverence”.
Built in 1911, the property features a Belle Epoque façade framed by twin domes, overlooking the town’s La Croisette beachfront promenade.
Commenting on the news Kenneth Macpherson, EMEAA Regional CEO, IHG Hotels and Resorts, said:
“With a long history of hosting royalty, dignitaries and stars of stage and screen, the Carlton Cannes is one of the world’s most iconic hotels.
“It is an icon of Riviera glamour, and we look forward to working with strategic partner Katara Hospitality to bring the reimagined Regent experience to life at the Carlton Cannes.
“This is just the start of our ambition to grow the brand further across Europe.”
