SAS has announced plans for a “new” route to New York JFK airport next year.
I say “new” because the Scandinavian carrier has served JFK previously, albeit not for over 30 years.
The Copenhagen-JFK service will launch on February 9, 2023, initially with five flights per week before increasing to daily for the summer season.
The Scandinavian carrier will operate into JFK’s Terminal 7, with the following schedules:
- Flights depart Copenhagen on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1825, arriving into New York JFK at 2130
- Flights depart New York JFK on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2300, arriving into Copenhagen at 1255 the following day
- Flights depart Copenhagen daily at 1920, arriving into New York JFK at 2200
- Flights depart New York JFK daily at 2355, arriving into Copenhagen at 1345 the following day
SAS currently serves New York’s Newark airport from Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm. The Star Alliance carrier will compete with Skyteam member Delta on the New York JFK-Copenhagen route.
The service will complement the carrier’s existing flights to New York Newark, with the airline stating that “The new route enables SAS customers to travel easily from both the West and East side of New York as SAS continues to offer departures from Scandinavia to Newark”.
SAS added that US destinations “continue to generate demand for more and frequent departures”, with the carrier set to operate around 130 weekly departures on 12 US routes this winter.
Commenting on the news Erik Westman, EVP & CCO, network and revenue management, said:
“We are very pleased to launch our new route to JFK. SAS offers a solid product to Newark Airport from Scandinavia, and we believe that this addition to JFK from Copenhagen will strengthen the New York offer to our customers.
“The US is a strategic market for SAS, and we will continue to develop new routes and destinations whenever the right opportunity presents itself.”
