Stockholm Terminal 5 to open new Marketplace and revamped security area – Business Traveller

Stockholm Arlanda airport has outlined plans to modernise facilities at its Terminal 5, including new shops and a revamped security area.

The new Marketplace will open in phases from summer 2023, offering a total of 11,000 sqm of outlets including a new, larger duty free store, and a gift shop focusing on Nordic products.

There will be new outlets by Swedish brands Gant and J Lindeberg, as well as a technology store by WH Smith brand InMotion.

A new “large-scale security checkpoint” is also set to open next summer at the airport’s Terminal 5. This follows the reopening of Terminal 4 this summer, which now features a connecting travellator walkway, allowing passengers to move freely between T4 and T5 post-security.

Stockholm Arlanda expects to complete the Marketplace development by the end of 2024 / beginning of 2025, with other forthcoming outlets including a new pharmacy, a children’s toys and clothing store, and a shop offering “outdoor clothing for active people”.

Commenting on the news Charlotte Ljunggren, chief marketing officer at Swedavia and acting airport director at Stockholm Arlanda airport, said:

“Part of our commercial strategy for the public tendering of new shops for the Marketplace has been to create good opportunities for shopping, whether it is planned or more spontaneous in nature.

“A varied offering and a broad range of prices that appeal to different customer groups have been important aspects.

“People have expressed a desire for more Nordic, Swedish and local goods to buy as gifts, and that is one of many things we are pleased that we will now be able to offer.”

Earlier this year IHG announced plans to open a dual-branded Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Express development close to Stockholm Arlanda airport.

The property is expected to open in 2026, and will be situated close to both the Swedish capital’s primary airport, and the Scandinavian XPO conference and events centre.
